We commit to creating productions that reflect society’s complexities and challenges, aiming to both entertain and enlighten. Our work celebrates the rich ecosystem of ideas, stories, and voices, inviting audiences on an artistic journey that explores the interconnectedness of life and inspires change. As John Steinbeck said, “It is advisable to look from the tide pool to the stars and then back to the tide pool again.”

Advisory Board
The Tide Pool Theatre Company will form an Advisory Board with local residents, business leaders, and artists. This board will help guide our new company to meet Santa Cruz’s community needs. We aim to learn from the community and grow, understanding the challenges of balancing creativity with reality. The Advisory Board will be key in helping us navigate these challenges and establishing ourselves in the Tannery Arts Complex and Santa Cruz.

A Unified Approach
The Tide Pool Theatre Company would like to offer a unified approach to ticketing, marketing, and scheduling, streamlining our operations under one cohesive banner. This consolidation presents numerous advantages:
Efficiency in Operations: By centralizing ticketing, marketing, and scheduling, we can ensure a more efficient and user-friendly experience for our patrons. This unified system simplifies the process of attending shows, buying tickets, and keeping track of our diverse array of events.
Strengthened Marketing Efforts: With all marketing efforts consolidated, we can more effectively promote our entire season of offerings, ensuring each production receives optimal exposure and reaches the widest possible audience.
Cohesive Branding: A unified approach allows us to strengthen our brand identity, making The Tide Pool Theatre Company synonymous with diverse, high-quality theatrical experiences in Santa Cruz.
Innovative Partnership Model: We are planning to offer space at the Colligan Theater to content partners without charging rent. In this unique model, while we share the income from ticket sales, the content partners retain full creative control over their productions. This arrangement not only supports local artists and groups but also enriches our season with a variety of performances and events.
Inclusion of Diverse Content: By including content from our partners in our season, we embrace a broad spectrum of artistic expressions. We believe this diversity not only reflects the vibrant cultural tapestry of our community but also appeals to a wider audience.
Technical Support and Space Adaptation: The Tide Pool Theatre Company commits to providing technical expertise and assistance in transitioning the space to suit the unique needs of each content partner’s production. This support ensures that all shows, regardless of their origin, meet our high standards of quality and provide an exceptional experience for audiences.
This integrated approach fosters a collaborative, supportive environment for artists and groups in Santa Cruz, while offering our audience a rich and varied theatrical experience. Santa Cruz Dance Community
The Tide Pool Theatre Company will spearhead efforts to engage with the extensive dance community, leveraging their expertise to arrange an unprecedented number of performances at the Colligan Theater. This initiative will showcase a wide array of esteemed local dance groups, including Tannery World Dance, Tandy Beal, Motion Pacific, Move Speak Spin, Iman Lizerazu, Dancenter, Clown Clubhouse, Esperanza del Valle, Cid Pearlman Performance, International Academy of Dance, Rebecca Ballet, and Watsonville Taiko. Through this partnership, audiences will be provided with unique opportunities to celebrate the rich diversity of dance.
Creating Space to Gather
We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Kintsugi Cafe, located at the heart of the Tannery Arts Complex. This exciting collaboration aims to not only enhance the cultural experience for our patrons but also to serve as a powerful economic engine for the thriving arts studios on our campus. With Kintsugi Cafe now a part of our community, we have the opportunity to provide our visitors with a diverse range of food and drink offerings right on campus, creating a delightful pre-performance experience that complements the rich artistic offerings of the Tannery Arts Complex. Together, we look forward to nurturing creativity, fostering collaboration, and enriching the overall arts and cultural ecosystem within our vibrant community.
After-School Theater Club
This program is designed to be a fun, stress-free, and supportive space for students who wish to explore theater at a pace that fits each student’s individual wants and needs! The classes are from 4 PM-6 PM Monday through Thursday, with Monday and Wednesday being for the 5-9 age group, while Tuesday and Thursday will be for the 10-14 age group. Every week, the students will each have an acting class, a Shakespeare class, and a Musical Theater class. For ages 5-9, the classes will be a fun and exciting introduction to theater with a focus on games and storytelling. For ages 10-14, the classes will be a step more specific, while maintaining a stress-free and supportive environment as the priority!

The Tide Pool Theatre Company is setting the stage for the future of theatre in Santa Cruz with two key initiatives:
Fostering Hands-on Apprenticeship
Our first focus is on fostering apprenticeship and creating opportunities for hands-on learning across all disciplines of theatre production. We are dedicated to providing a comprehensive environment where participants can deeply engage with acting, directing, technical roles, marketing, and creating original works. This approach allows aspiring theatre professionals to gain invaluable practical experience and develop a broad skill set, preparing them for a successful future in the arts.
Partnership with Renegade Theater Company
Secondly, we’re excited about our partnership with Renegade Theater Company, known for its impactful children’s and young adult theatre productions. This collaboration aims to establish a studio on the Tannery Arts Center campus, dedicated to launching a children’s theatre program that nurtures emerging young talent. Participants will have the chance to showcase their work at The Colligan Theater, offering a professional and supportive platform to exhibit their talents.
Through these initiatives, The Tide Pool Theatre Company is committed to enriching the Santa Cruz arts scene, creating a nurturing space for individuals of all ages to explore and develop their talents in the dynamic world of theatre.
